Next on our summer agenda was our yearly trip to visit family in Pennsylvannia for the 4th of July! BJ's cousins were there as well as a larger extended family and we all had a great time. BJ really loved the parade this year! We have noticed he's taken a particular interest in music. Loves to dance, can clap out the beat, and most of the time just move to the beat. I included a funny video the slide show of him "moving to the beat" with one of the marching bands! Too funny! We were able to take him to the amusement park called Midway again this year where he was able to ride the rides with his cousins! Of course mommy and daddy got to go too!! :) We could tell BJ had really grown from the year before because he was able to ride on some of the rides he previously couldn't have done!

Thanks for some of your potty training ideas! We tried the book "1,2,3 Potty Training" But the steps all backfired on us. In this book you are supposed to reward for all potty related situations. The heaviest reward being for staying clean and dry. So the idea is to check them frequently (in underwear) and reward them for clean and/or dry pants. The first day BJ was thrilled, but by the end of the day, he didn't care what the reward was, he wanted NOTHING to do with being clean and dry. When I would ask him to check or when I would check myself, he would say "NO dry! NO not clean!" and demand I leave him alone. He also got tired of using the potty so frequently. So that was OUT!!! The underwear thing and the reward thing only worked for so long before he lost interest. I think (and correct me if you have any other ideas) that because he has CHOSEN times to stay dry and clean and also CHOSEN NOT to stay dry and clean, that this has become more of a power struggle issue than anything else. BJ is EXTREMELY stubborn (teacher at pre-k even says so), though he is a very Polite stubborn child. I know this is a tangent but it is hysterical. When BJ refuses to do something, he will simply say "No thank you! I don't want to now." or when he wants something he's not supposed to have "Please may I? Yes Please?" He is such a riot! Anyway, as I was saying, BJ likes control and of course around here Mommy and Daddy are the boss and I think going potty is one area where he knows he HAS control. It's just a thought, because he has shown us he can do it!
Parenting is so difficult! REWARDING and completely AMAZING but difficult! :)
